One of the cooler features of the PlayStation 4 (PS4) is the ability to download your games without having to use the system. Instead, you can control this feature from your phone, so you don't even need to get out of bed to get the latest games. It's a handy way to save you the time and energy by ensuring that all those mammoth system updates and game downloads are done just in time for you to simply sit in front of the TV and start playing.
With more and more games going digital, and file sizes not getting any smaller, this is getting to be more and more important, so you'll want to make use of automatic downloads. This is all you need to do to ensure your PS4 is working to get those updates even while you're away.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Power Saving Settings.
- Choose Set Functions Available in Stand By mode 4. Here you will need to tick Connect to the Internet. On doing so you can tick Enable Turning On of PS4 from Network.
- Go back to Settings, choose System.
- Click Automatic Downloads and Uploads.
- Tick Enable Automatic Downloads and Uploads.
Now, simply set your PS4 to standby mode when you're done by pressing the home button and selecting the option.
With these settings enabled, you can buy games from the PlayStation Store using a browser on your PC, or using the PlayStation app on Android or iOS, and they'll automatically get downloaded to your system. This means you could be sitting in the middle of a boring meeting and finding the best new games to buy, and by the time you get home, they will be ready to play.
As long as your console is connected to a power source and has Internet access, you can be assured that everything that's necessary to make your next gaming session better is being downloaded while you're away doing other tasks.
