Vision Gran Turismo Makes Auto Show Debut

Gran Turismo 6 concept cars are nothing new, but Bugatti took things one step further at the Frankfurt Auto Show this week by creating a real-life version of its Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo.
You can't buy it; it largely serves as a preview of what Bugatti has up its sleeve for its next-gen vehicle. But the car maker said it "transformed its Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo from the virtual world of bytes and pixels into a real carbon-fibre racer...to thank its millions of fans worldwide for their loyalty and enthusiasm."
The move comes as Bugatti brings its Veyron series to a close (only 450 were made and sold). Next up: a new "super sports car," known as the Chiron, that will arrive in "not too distant future," the company said.

But until then, the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo "design pays homage to Bugatti's great racing tradition of the 1920s and 1930s, in particular its victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, and is based on cutting-edge motor sport technology. At the same time the virtual project also previews Bugatti's future design language."
Bugatti acknowledged that not everyone can afford one of its vehicles; a top-of-the-line version can cost upwards of $2 million. So having one of its vehicles in Gran Turismo 6 opens the brand to a new audience. The physical model at the auto show, and the download coming to the game, therefore, "is our way of thanking them for their loyalty and enthusiasm," Bugatti said this week.
"Having met the team at Bugatti, I can honestly say that the way they challenge limits, the way they try to push beyond boundaries, feels so similar to the way Gran Turismo attempts to go the extra mile in everything it does," Kazunori Yamauchi, Senior Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment and President of game maker Polyphony Digital, said in a statement. "For us, the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo greatly enriches the Gran Turismo offering. It is an exciting and cool car and I am proud to have it on board".
With its W16 engine, engineers estimate the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo can drive at more than 250 mph on four sections of the virtual Le Mans track. Those at the show can see the real-life vehicle at the Bugatti stand in hall 3.0 from Sept. 17-27. Everyone else will have to sit tight for the in-game download.
Hyundai, meanwhile, will also show off its Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept car in Frankfurt this week.
